.np domain hub

Everything you need to know about Nepal’s country-code domain: the available extensions, who they are for, how registration works and what online tools can and cannot confirm.

Check a .np name

Enter a full name such as example.com.np. We show what DNS reveals and explain what cannot be verified online.

.np names are registered at the third level, for example yourname.com.np.

What DomainDNSCheck can and cannot tell you

We can show whether a .np name is delegated in DNS, which proves it is registered, and we can check its DNS, SSL certificate and email configuration like any other domain. We cannot confirm that a .np name is available, because the registry does not offer RDAP or a documented public availability service — and we do not scrape the registry’s website.

What DomainDNSCheck can verify

  • Whether a .np name is delegated in DNS — which proves it is registered.
  • Its nameservers, DNS records and DNSSEC status.
  • Its SSL/TLS certificate, HTTPS setup and email security.

What only the registry can confirm

  • Whether an unregistered .np name is actually available to you.
  • Whether you are eligible for a particular extension.
  • Which documents your application needs and whether it is approved.

About .np

.np is the country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Nepal. The registry is operated by Mercantile Communications Pvt. Ltd. and accepts applications through register.com.np.

Unlike .com, names are not registered directly under .np. Instead, you choose a second-level zone that matches your type of organization — for example company.com.np for a business or school.edu.np for an educational institution.

Registration under .np has been offered free of charge. Applications are reviewed manually against supporting documents, so it takes at least a day and a name that matches your organization or personal name is expected.

Extension explorer

The registry’s policy lists these second-level zones. Each is intended for a specific type of applicant.

How registration works

  1. Choose the extension that matches your applicant type (use the eligibility assistant if unsure).
  2. Prepare the supporting documents and a cover letter.
  3. Apply at register.com.np with your chosen name and documents.
  4. Wait for the registry to review the application — at least 24 hours, sometimes longer.
  5. Once approved, point the domain at your nameservers and check it with our DNS tools.
